What this size is for

Play does not publish an exact required size for screenshots. It publishes bounds — 320 to 3840 px per side, maximum 2:1 — and then names 1080 × 1920 as the portrait size that makes an app eligible for the formats where Play recommends apps using screenshots.

Google asks for at least four screenshots at a minimum of 1080 px for that eligibility (three for games), so 1080 × 1920 × 4 is the practical target for a phone listing.

It is exactly 9:16, which sits comfortably inside the 2:1 cap — unlike almost every modern phone’s native panel.

The mistake to avoid: Uploading a raw capture from a current handset. Those panels are around 2.16:1, over Play’s hard 2:1 limit, so the upload is refused even though both dimensions are inside the size bounds.

Will this file work on the App Store?

No. Apple does not accept arbitrary dimensions: every App Store slot has an exact list of accepted sizes, and 1080 × 1920 px is not on any of them. If you are shipping to both stores, build the design once and export each store's canvas separately.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a phone screenshots screenshot on the Google Play?

1080 × 1920 px in portrait, 1920 × 1080 px in landscape — an aspect ratio of 9:16 (1 : 1.78). Google’s requirement is a range — 320 px minimum, 3840 px maximum per side, and no side more than twice the other. 1080 × 1920 is the portrait size it names for recommendation eligibility.

Is 1080 × 1920 required?

Google’s requirement is a range — 320 px minimum, 3840 px maximum per side, and no side more than twice the other. 1080 × 1920 is the portrait size it names for recommendation eligibility. 1080 × 1920 px is a valid upload for this slot.

What format and how many 1080 × 1920 screenshots can I upload?

JPEG or 24-bit PNG, no alpha. Count: up to 8 per device type; at least 2 across device types to publish.

Can I reuse my App Store screenshots on Google Play?

Not directly. Every current iPhone size is taller than 2:1 — 1320 × 2868 is about 2.17:1 — and Play refuses anything over that cap. Re-export the same design onto a 1080 × 1920 canvas instead.
