The field that blocks submissions
A privacy policy URL is a hard requirement on both stores, and it catches indie developers out more than any other field — not because the document is hard to write, but because it needs somewhere permanent to live.
A Doc link is not a URL
Google Docs and Notion pages require a login, change address, or render as something a reviewer will not accept.
It has to keep resolving
Apple re-checks the link after review. A dead policy URL on a live app is grounds for removal.
Terms too, in practice
Most submissions need a terms of service alongside the policy, at an equally permanent address.
Answer a brief, get the document
Your developer name, a contact email, your website, and what your app actually collects. You get a privacy policy and a terms of service drafted around those answers — each clause conditional, so the document never claims a flow your app does not have.
