Localizing your app listing into Marathi

What actually changes when you add Marathi to an app listing: the storefronts it reaches, what each store calls it, and what the script does to your keyword field and your screenshot captions.

मराठी App Store: Marathi Play: mr-IN Devanagari ~33 characters of keyword field

Storefronts and localization names read from Apple’s App Store localizations reference; language codes and field limits from Google Play’s translation language list and each store’s field reference. Checked August 29, 2026.

Marathi shares Devanagari with Hindi but is a separate App Store localization and a separate Play language — a Hindi translation does not serve Marathi speakers, and the store will not substitute one for the other.

Three bytes per character, so roughly 33 characters of Apple keyword field.

Where a Marathi listing appears

Apple publishes the default language of all 173 App Store storefronts, and Marathi is the default in none of them — it is an additional supported language in 1. Those markets see English unless you add the Marathi localization yourself.

What you translate, and what it costs you

Both stores cap the same fields, and neither cap changes by language — but the amount of meaning you fit inside them does. Apple’s keyword field is the one that surprises people: it is measured in bytes, so Devanagari at about 3 bytes per character leaves roughly 33 characters. Google Play counts characters instead, and says so explicitly: its limits “apply to both full-width and half-width characters”.

Store Field Limit
App Store App name 2–30 characters
App Store Subtitle 30 characters
App Store Keywords 100 bytes
App Store Promotional text 170 characters
App Store Description 4,000 characters
Google Play App name 30 characters
Google Play Short description 80 characters
Google Play Full description 4,000 characters
In Marathi: As with Hindi, the headline stroke and stacked matras need extra line height in a caption box designed for Latin type.

The screenshots are part of the localization

Both stores let you upload a separate screenshot set per localization, and in practice the captions are what sells — a translated description under English screenshots converts like an English listing. Design the frames once, then export the same layout per language rather than rebuilding it: that is the difference between localizing into Marathi in an afternoon and not doing it at all.

Write it once, ship it in Marathi

Edok Studio drafts your store listing with AI, translates the whole thing — name, subtitle, keywords, description — into Marathi and 30+ other languages, and exports a screenshot set per locale from one design.

Frequently asked questions

Does the App Store support Marathi listings?

Yes. Apple’s localization is called Marathi, and you add it in App Store Connect alongside your primary language. Google Play’s code is mr-IN.

Which App Store storefronts show a Marathi listing?

Marathi is not the default language of any storefront — it is an additional supported language in 1 of Apple’s 173 App Store countries and regions (India). Those storefronts default to another language, so the Marathi listing only exists if you add it.

How much fits in the Marathi App Store keyword field?

About 33 characters. Apple’s keyword field is 100 bytes, not 100 characters, and Devanagari costs roughly 3 bytes per character in UTF-8. Google Play has no keyword field at all — its limits are counted in characters, full-width or half-width alike.

What are the character limits for a Marathi store listing?

The same as every other language: App Store name 30, subtitle 30, promotional text 170, description 4,000, keywords 100 bytes; Google Play name 30, short description 80, full description 4,000. The limits do not change per language — how much you can say inside them does.

More on the craft: how to localise a listing, writing a description that ranks, and every store screenshot size for the set you will export per locale.
