Your listing

What it checks

The limits first, because a field over its limit is simply refused: 30 characters for the title and subtitle, 170 for promotional text, 80 for Google Play’s short description, 4,000 for the description, and 100 bytes — not characters — for the App Store keyword field.

Then the rules that cost you rankings rather than an upload. Apple indexes your title, subtitle and keyword field as one set, so the checker finds every word used twice, plus filler like “app” and “free” and plurals of words you already have. Google Play bars promotional claims, “new”, emoji and ALL-CAPS styling from titles, and penalises a description that repeats one term far beyond natural use.

The fixed keyword field is the useful part. It keeps your terms in your order, drops everything that wastes space, and stops at exactly 100 bytes — ready to paste into App Store Connect.

What it cannot tell you

Whether your keywords are the right ones. That needs search-volume and competition data per country. The checker makes sure the terms you chose are spent without waste; choosing them is the research half of ASO.

Frequently asked questions

What does the ASO checker test?

Every limit both stores enforce (title and subtitle 30, promotional text 170, short description 80, description 4,000, keyword field 100 bytes); words repeated across your title, subtitle and keyword field; filler words, duplicates and plurals in the keyword field; promotional claims, emoji, “new” and ALL-CAPS words that Google Play bars from titles; keyword stuffing in the full description; and any mention of a competitor you name.

Why is the keyword field measured in bytes?

Because App Store Connect counts it in bytes, not characters. A letter in English is one byte, an accented letter usually two, and a Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Hindi or Thai character three — so the same 100-byte field holds about 33 CJK characters.

Why should keywords not repeat my title?

Apple indexes your title, subtitle and keyword field together and combines the words itself. A word that is already in the title gains nothing from appearing again in the keyword field — it only spends bytes that a new search term could have used.

Is my listing sent anywhere?

No. The checker runs entirely in your browser; nothing you type leaves the page.

What is a good ASO score?

The score starts at 100 and drops for each problem — more for things a store rejects or penalises, less for wasted ranking potential such as unused keyword bytes. Above 85 means nothing is wasted or at risk; it does not measure how competitive your chosen keywords are.
