What this size is for

The 6.5-inch class is Apple’s fallback: if you upload no 6.9-inch set, this one becomes mandatory, and if you upload nothing here either, App Store Connect fills the slot by scaling your 6.9-inch screenshots down.

It also sits upstream of most of the catalogue. The 6.3-inch and 6.1-inch classes are both scaled from 6.5-inch, so this set — not the 6.9-inch one — is what a large slice of installed iPhones actually sees when you skip their class.

That makes it worth an explicit upload for apps with a lot of older-device users, even though the modern default is to ship 6.9-inch alone.

The mistake to avoid: Assuming 6.5-inch is dead because Apple stopped asking for every class. It is the fallback slot and the scaling source for two more classes — the one legacy size still worth producing deliberately.

Devices in the 6.5-inch display slot

The App Store files these devices under the same slot, so one set covers all of them:

Will this file work on Google Play?

No. Google Play refuses any screenshot whose long side is more than twice its short side, and at 1 : 2.16 this one is over that line. Design once, then export a separate 1080 × 1920 set for Play — the artwork is the same, the canvas is not.

Open the editor with the canvas already set to 1284 × 2778, drop your app screens into a device frame, and export the whole set — watermark-free on the free plan.

The other sizes in this slot

The App Store accepts more than one exact dimension here. Any of them uploads to the same slot — only one set is stored.

Is 1284 × 2778 required?

Yes. Apple’s wording: required if the app runs on iPhone and screenshots for the 6.9-inch display are not provided. Supply one class or the other. Upload the set at 1284 × 2778 px, in PNG or JPEG, RGB, no alpha channel or transparency.

What format and how many 1284 × 2778 screenshots can I upload?

PNG or JPEG, RGB, no alpha channel or transparency. Count: 1 to 10 per display class, per localization.

Can I upload a 1284 × 2778 screenshot to Google Play?
